Facebook and Instagram’s parent company, Meta, is taking on Twitter with the launch of Threads, a new app for sharing ideas and trends through text. The app is now available for both iPhone and Android users. Threads is similar to Instagram but focuses more on written content.
You can log in using your Instagram account and follow the same people you already do on Instagram. You can also personalize your profile on Threads. Each post can be up to 500 characters long and can include links, photos, and videos up to 5 minutes long.
This new app could pose a challenge to Twitter, especially considering the recent controversies surrounding its new owner, Elon Musk. The rivalry between Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, and Elon Musk adds an extra layer of competition.
The timing of Threads’ launch is advantageous for Meta, as Twitter has faced criticism for making its popular TweetDeck tool a paid service within a month. Social media enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating Threads and its potential to reshape online conversations and trends.
